Positive Reinforcement

Before we begin training the dog at home, I should tell you something extremely important: never punish, never beat, never scream at your four legged friend! If you really want to achieve something you will always have to be consequent, and when the dog does what you expect it to do, never forget to praise it!

Why shouldn’t we scream at the dog?  A dog’s hearing is far superior to human hearing. Screaming does not lead to any results.

Why should we be consequent? Every canine has a different personality and this can be recognized at a very fragile age. After 10 days the puppies begin to open their eyes and discover the world around them. This is when their personage gradually unfolds.

I’m sure that once in a while you had the opportunity to meet a dog who immediately laid down begging you to scratch its belly. Everybody did. These dogs are not dominant and are easier to train than those who jump on you, who do not really like to respond to their names or their master’s commands. Being consequent during the training helps you to discover the bellwether in yourself and this is the way the dog finds its place in the world.

How does this work? When the dog acts or reacts inappropriate (for our world), just say the magic word “NO” instead of punishing her. Each and every time she does what she should, praise her, tell her she’s a “GOOD DOG”. You must say (and give)  something as a reward and as a matter of encouragement. Positive reinforcement is as indispensable as feeding the dog.  Always encourage the convenient behaviour and you won’t be disappointed.
